LAPTOP BAG
A DRESS FOR THE OPERA
When my husband surprised me with tickets to the opera I realized I had
nothing to wear. Or maybe I was just being a woman and my closet was
full but nothing looked interesting or new enough for me. So I made this
dress for the event. I liked the finished product but the fabric was a
bit difficult to work with and when making the pattern I did not take
into consideration that I was using a knit. Lets just say there were
lots of adjustments that had to be made.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY OMA
My Oma (grandmother) past away about four and a half years ago and just
before she passed away she gave me this fabric. It was the last thing
she ever gave me. I have been racking my brain for years four and a half
to be exact on what to do with it. I wanted to design something my Oma
would love.
I finaly had the design. It was a bit vintage but still modern.
Because of my emotional attachment to the fabric the first cut when cutting the fabric out was a bit difficult. I was thinking "Are you sure this is the design? After you cut out the pattern you are committed. Your Oma will never give you fabric again. Are you sure this is what you want to do with it?"
When I finished the top I realized that there was possibly enough fabric left for a pair of shorts. I quickly designed the pattern for the shorts and laid it out on the remaining fabric. The pattern edge lined up with the end of my fabric. I have never had a pattern fit so snug into the bit of fabric I had left. There was barely even scraps of fabric left. Lucky me.
I wanted to share this to commemorate my Oma's birthday. Happy Birthday Oma.

ENVELOPE CLUTCH
MESSIAH THE SYMPHONY
Tonight I will be at the Utrecht Symphony. It has become a tradition for
my husband and I to go to the symphony just before Christmas to see the
The Messiah. This year I decided to design something special just for
the event. So I went into my fabric closet and pulled out this fringe
leather.
The moment I sow this fabric at a fabric market the design I wanted to
create with it flashed before my eyes. I even picked up the metallic
lining that day. I wanted the slit to open as I walked ant the shimmer
form the lining to surprise people.
So I got to work. The pattern design was simple. When it came to sewing
it was a bit tricky because of the fringe. I had to be extremely
careful when sewing every seam as not to sew part of the fringe into the
seam. I was also worried that the invisible zipper would not work with
this fabric. I was determined to try because I thought any other zipper
would just not work with this design I had in mind. And It worked!
